Digital skins. Making performative costumes using UV reactive colours and wearable technologies. Some of the fabric samples that interest me is laser cut tulle, fabrics within fabrics, and foam balls sewn into pouches. Having colours peep through cuts in fabric also have a unique effect. I feel that I am being drawn to the idea of creating illusions of aliveness rather than just fanciful art.
Using UV paints would allow to create some interesting textures and patterns that could work well with different fabrics.
I found it surprising that the white foam balls incased in tulle appeared black under the black light.
A 30 minute exercise to make something out of scraps led me to making what I feel is the worst use of textiles and materials ever, even if it looked kind of intriguing under the black lights. I need to refine my thinking, rather than making complete outfits. Take a step back and think and be in spired by textures, colours, layers, materials, and feel how things could work together or make interesting contradictions.
I have a lot to learn and discover for this journey. But I am feeling really excited at all the possibilities this challenge affords me.
